atlanta autism is a real problem
Natural health doctor and parent of an autistic child offers help
After two days of testing by the clinical psychologist, she tells you the findings for your child: “Your child has mild to moderate form of Autism, Mrs. Smith.” You think, "What do I do now? What is my son’s future going to look like?"
This is my story. I am a chiropractic doctor and mother to a child who suffers from autism in Atlanta. But before I go any further, let me catch you up to speed on how the health care professionals define autism.
what is autism?
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is defined as a group of complex neurodevelopment disorders characterized by repetitive and characteristic patterns of behavior and difficulties with social communication and interaction.
This particular disorder is considered a spectrum due to the fact there is a wide range of symptoms, skills, level of intelligence, motor coordination, level of disability, and more that affects each individual that is on the spectrum. It is fairly common that therapists and practitioners will use Autism and ASD interchangeably.
"My child, who was once labeled mentally retarded and had the developmental mindset and function of a one year old and who was completely nonverbal is now a child that is using four word sentences, very social and friendly, makes eye contact with strangers, and has vast increases in his motor coordination."
My atlanta autism story
The above scenario is a common scene for a parent(s) to discover that their child has been diagnosed with Autism in Atlanta.
I experienced that scenario two and half years ago with my son.
The advice and/or treatment that is usually given by doctors to parent(s) are different types of therapies based on their findings, such as Speech, OT, Physical Therapy, Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), and/or Behavior therapy. However, the doctor does inform you that depending on your child these therapies may or may not work, which makes a family think, "What can I do for my child? What will work?"
This article is to inform you about some of the natural treatments for Autism in Atlanta.
A fast-growing percentage of people in Atlanta are looking to alternative treatments to treat their disorders and/or illnesses. In this article we will discuss two alternative ways to treat individuals with Autism. The two ways are: chiropractic care for autism and nutrition for autism.
I am a chiropractic doctor at Thrive Health Systems, because our shared health care philosophy. We go way beyond the simple adjustment of the spine. We look at patients blood chemistry, their toxicity levels, and other factors to determine how the whole-body is functioning. This philosophy has great results when working the autistic population.
Put simply, we help remove interference from the body. That interference could be due to food sensitivities and allergies, direct nerve impairment, toxicity, nutritional deficiencies and a myriad of other causes.
Many individuals that have Autism or ASD are selective eaters due to the sensitivity to texture and taste of food, which translates to not receiving the proper nutrients and minerals for their body and most importantly the brain to function at optimum.
I often encourage parent(s) to eliminate gluten, sugars, artificial flavors, and dairy from the individual’s diet. The reason for this elimination of particular foods and/or ingredients, is that they may cause the intestinal lining of the gut to be in inflamed, which will result in the nervous system having an autoimmune response causing damage to the nervous system
Regarding chiropractic care for autism, our Thrive Health Systems doctors want to make sure that the nervous system is free of any stress, tension, and interference in order to strengthen the neuro-immuno-biological performance of the body.
A Chiropractic adjustment to an individual with Autism, or someone on the Spectrum, creates new and clear input to the nervous system to adapt, receive, and cope with one’s environment more efficiently.
From my personal experience of being a mother of a child that has Autism in Atlanta, I can say that providing proper nutrition and chiropractic care for him is having fantastic results.
