Functional neurology in colorado springs (chiropractic neurology)

Functional neurology is a brain based therapy that has its roots in the chiropractic neurology specialty.

Much of what functional neurology does is uses an in depth understanding of the physiology of the human nervous system to adjust the function of the brain and central nervous system.

This is accomplished by using receptors for our own senses to stimulate areas deep within the brain and spinal cord.  This stimulation accomplishes change in these areas of the nervous system by a concept called neuroplasticity.  Neuroplasticity is a concept that describes changes in the nerves and their pathways and connections that has resulted from external and internal influence.

Functional neurology has its roots in neuroscience and neuroanatomy and attempts to apply this knowledge in a clinical manner to affect a change in the brain and nervous system.

This is a therapeutic approach that is unique to each individual and their unique presentation.  Therapies may range from a variety of types including manual therapy and manipulation, eye movement exercises, activation of the vestibular or balance center of the brain, cognitive activities, and more.

Dr. Karl Robinson, DC, NP is board certified by the American Chiropractic Neurology Board as well as the American College of Functional Neurology and is experienced in neuro-rehabilitative cases including traumatic brain injury, neurodevelopmental disorders of childhood, and vestibular rehabilitation.
