It Pays to not be obese

According to the Center for Disease Control, over 1/3 (35.7%) of the US is obese.

Obesity-related conditions include heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes and certain types of cancer, some of the leading causes of preventable death.

Heart disease is the number 1 killer of Americans and stroke and diabetes are the top 2 disablers of Americans.

In 2008, medical costs associated with obesity were estimated at $147 billion; the medical costs for people who are obese were $1,429 higher than those of normal weight.

Just recently, Colorado slipped over the 20% threshold of obesity, meaning that 20.7% of Coloradans are obese. The scariest part is that statistic has doubled in less than 26 years. The rate of increase is up to 360% in 26 in some states like Mississippi and Alabama.

What you can do about it

If the health care costs for obese people are on average $1429 per year higher than those of normal weight, then that means there is a financial spread that can be gained back, just by taking action today.

Ten years of $1429 in extra expenses due to excessive weight is $14,290. What if you spent $3000 to get well today; would it be worth it? This is only based on averages, and it does not take into account the very high health care costs created when an obese patients gets full blown diabetes or cancer or heart disease. These costs can be exorbitant. It pays to be an ideal body composition.

We have two programs that can help you:

1) Our Wellness Program to combat obesity and the chronic illnesses that go along with excessive weight gain, includes pain management, a nutrition plan, detox, blood testing, and personal training. Patients lose on average 26 lbs over the first 60 days, and often get off medications, and reduce their markers for metabolic syndrome and/or diabetes, while reducing their risk of dying by the number 1 killer in the US, heart disease.

The program measures your wellness statistics using blood testing, body composition and functional movement testing before and after. Your first step is to call for an Initial Exam. The cost of this exam is $99. or we offer a free consultation with one of our wellness doctors.

2) Ideal Protein: For patients who are in dire need of weight loss and function best off a highly scripted diet plan, Ideal Protein can be an excellent solution. However, we recommend personal training after patients exit the initial Ideal Protein phase.

These two graphs are featured on the Center for Disease Controls website and they show the dramatic increase in US obesity from 2000 to 2008. Many Southern states are quickly approaching a 40% obesity rate, and while Colorado is still leading the country, it has also doubled in recent years.
