![]() Hi, my name is Ethan Boynton and I'm a Colorado Springs personal trainer, and I'd like to tell you an outrageous story that fuels my passion for personal training. I hear a lot of people talking these days about how much of a waste of time it is to train and stay in shape. I hear it’s “too late” and, “what’s the point”, from one to many people, and it worries me. What I tell people in response to that is, “If my Dad can do it, then you officially have NO excuses.” When I was 15 years old my Dad was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes, and it wasn’t a surprise, the man was 5’10” and 450 lbs. You had to be at the dinner table early on thanksgiving when he was around. His response to finding out he had Type 2 Diabetes was about the same as my Grandmothers: “I don’t feel any different, so why change anything?” What my Dad failed to realize was that when my Grandmother lost her foot, one of her eyes, and went bald - all in five years - it wasn't part of the “growing old process.” My Grandmother learned to eat right the last 3 years of her life because someone else was feeding her. At the time, my Grandfather had recently died also. One day I went to my Mom and told her, “I just lost my Pa, and now I’m going to lose my Dad too.” And she, being the wonderful woman she is, immediately told my Father about this. I thank God to this day she did. It freaked him out and made him realize just how serious this his condition was, and it also made him realize how much of an impact his disregard for his own health impacted others around him. So he finally came to me and asked me to help him, and that’s when the magic happened. I put him on the proper diet and exercise program, he did what I told him, and he lost more than I weigh. He now weighs 200lbs, meaning he lost 250lbs, and believe it or not, his diabetes went away! He is off his medications! He is going to the doctors less! He can now tie his own shoes! All this because he stopped making excuses. He showed me that people chose how they live. For him, he got well because he stopped using excuses: genetics, how he was raised, eating healthy is too hard, I can’t afford to be in shape, I was fat when I was a kid, I’m content right now, or, my husband/wife loves me the way I am. When it comes down to it, it all has to do with how important your health is to you and just how high, or low, of a quality of life you want. My challenge to you is instead of looking at your health at the present, look at your health in the future. Think about what you would look like or how you might feel if you continue like you are right now. If you don’t know the answer to this, then I can offer you an assessment that will give you an idea on your health. It's called a Wellness Score. It costs $99 and we will spend 30 minutes together going over your goals, hopes and dreams and how I can help you get there. Once we perform the score, go over your goals, we will workout together for a one hour. It's a great value. To change your life, call us at 719.475.8676 to schedule your Wellness Score and first training session.
