Leaky Gut Defined: What It Is, How It Impacts Health, And How To Address It Naturally

Picture
Gut health impacts your entire body, so it’s no wonder diagnosing Leaky Gut is so important.

If you do not have a healthy gut, you are leaving yourself open to a myriad of ailments and very serious diseases.

So, what is Leaky Gut, exactly?

To put it simply, Leaky gut is intestinal hyper-permeability.

A healthy gut has tight junctions within the intestinal wall that prevent harmful substances from entering the bloodstream. These junctions are designed to keep said substances inside a barrier until they can be released from your body through your digestive system.

However, with Leaky Gut, we see those junctions loosen. Bacteria and toxins from the food we eat begin to slip through those junctions into the bloodstream. Once these substances slip into the bloodstream, they begin wreaking havoc on the rest of the body.

How is Leaky Gut Impacting YOUR Health?

Leaky Gut and active gastrointestinal conditions are commonly seen together. People with Celiacs, Crohn’s Disease, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, and even food allergies often have leaky gut.

Leaky gut is also prevalent in those with other autoimmune diseases, such as Lupus, Type 1 Diabetes, fibromyalgia and multiple sclerosis.

The list doesn’t stop there…

We are seeing leaky gut in people with arthritis, asthma, acne, obesity, chronic fatigue syndrome, depression and other mental illnesses.

How Can You Address Leaky Gut Naturally?

Do you have uncomfortable or mysterious symptoms that you can’t seem to address? Do you feel like you are only addressing symptoms of your disease? Do you want to feel better and have more energy?

If this is you, work with your Functional Medicine doctor to see if you have leaky gut. We’ve seen our patients who address their leaky gut gain quality of life back time and time again.

There is no pharmaceutical fix to cure leaky gut. In fact, your pharmaceuticals may be contributing to your leaky gut. Are you taking OTC NSAIDS?

The good news is that Functional Medicine may be able to help you identify Leaky Gut and as well as what is causing it.  A simple blood test will get you on the road to answers.

You can get back on track by working with a Functional Medicine doctor. They may be able to help you learn about your personal triggers, as well as inflammatory foods to avoid and lifestyle choices to help. They can also identify any deficiencies you’ve already developed from this condition, and support you in returning to an optimal state of being.

Together, you can heal your gut, stop further damage to your body, and begin to thrive again!

TAKEAWAY:  The Gut is one of the "key players" in overall body health.  Many illnesses can be caused by poor gut health.  We have seen the symptoms of many illnesses reverse when the gut is healed.

Our offer to you:  If you'd like to come in, see one of our doctors to discuss diabetes, or how Functional Medicine might support your body in reversing diabetes, then you can do so by claiming our $19 new patient special.  Simply
select the location you want to visit, give us a call, and we'll look forward to meeting you!
